FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
F. Dale Hayes, international marketing manager for corporate marketing for United Parcel Service in Atlanta, has pledged a total of $50,000 to endow an F. Dale Hayes Endowment scholarship for studies at North Carolina State University.
Hayes is a 1978 graduate of NC State with a bachelor's degree in textile chemistry. A native of Burlington, he was named Outstanding Young Alumnus by the NC State Alumni Association in 1995. Hayes, who already has contributed significantly to the university, has been a member of the Chancellor's Circle of donors since 1994.
The scholarship will be awarded to entering freshmen in any of the university's colleges on the basis of outstanding scholastic achievement, leadership, and potential for academic success.
"A lot of what I have been able to accomplish is due to what I learned at NC State," Hayes said. "With this endowment, I have the opportunity to help attract the leaders of tomorrow to NC State, where they will receive the education and grounding they need to be successful."
Chancellor Larry K. Monteith said of Hayes' gift, "This commitment by Mr. Hayes is an investment in tomorrow's leaders. This scholarship will allow some of the brightest and most energetic young people to attend NC State and will strengthen the university's commitment to increasing scholarships that will attract top scholars to NC State."
