Nineteen NC State Faculty Members Named Outstanding Teachers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nineteen North Carolina State University faculty members have been selected as 2000-01 Outstanding Teachers in recognition of their contributions to student scholarship and classroom teaching. Committees made up of students and faculty helped select this year’s winners.

The 19 faculty members will be inducted into the NC State Academy of Outstanding Teachers, which was established in 1965 to recognize exceptional classroom service. To receive a nomination, a faculty member must have taught at NC State for five semesters and must teach at least half time.

A certificate will be presented to each of the Outstanding Teachers at NC State’s Honors Convocation in May. In addition, four teachers (designated in the list below by asterisks after their names) each have been selected by a student government committee to receive a check for $1,000 from the NC State Alumni Association.

The 2000-01 Outstanding Teachers, by city of residence, are:

Dr. Howard "Lee" Allen, distinguished professor, Department of Forestry;

Dr. Saad A. Khan, associate professor and director of graduate programs, Department of Chemical Engineering;

Dr. Alan J. Reiman, assistant professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

FUQUAY-VARINA

Dr. Richard D. Gould, professor and director of graduate programs, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

GARNER

Dr. Kay A. Sandberg, lecturer, Department of Chemistry.

HOLLY SPRINGS

Dr. Paul D. Franzon, professor, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

PITTSBORO

Dr. James R. Flowers, instructor, Department of Microbiology, Pathology and Parasitology.

RALEIGH
