NC State Food Drive Marks 25 Years of Helping Wake County
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEEvery year many families in Wake County go without the nutritionally balanced meals they need to lead a healthy life, but an annual event that started a quarter century ago is working to help solve the problem.
The North Carolina State University Interfraternity Council will begin to collect food items donated to the 33 participating chapters at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Varsity Drive Park & Ride lot at the corner of Varsity Drive and Marcom Street. This year marks the 25th year for the IFC food drive.
Food will be "weighed in" and then transported to Wake Relief, a volunteer-staffed food pantry that assists families who have an emergency need for food. Participating IFC chapters earlier this fall distributed 3,000 food collection bags throughout Raleigh and Cary.
Last year Wake Relief served nearly 6,000 people, half of them children. Wake Relief is located in the basement of Christ Church, at the corner of Edenton and Blount streets in Raleigh. The NC State food drive is the primary food drive for Wake Relief.
